If your soul longs for a Shakespearean tale of romantic beauty, if your ideal wedding is a scene out of Much Ado About Nothing or Midsummer Night’s Dream, then feast on this fabulous country creation of fairytale wedding sweetness. Blending a rustic ranch location with modern bohemian whimsy and medieval elegance, this shoot transports you to a place of enchantment and warmth. Based on the Lord Tennyson poem “The Lady of Shallot”, Ophelia floats away from Camelot in her mysterious barge, sleeping amongst the flowers and sunbeams.
“Underneath the bearded barley,
The reaper, reaping late and early,
Hears her ever chanting cheerly,
Like and angel, singing clearly,
O’er the stream of Camelot.
Piling the sheaves in furrows airy,
Beneath the moon, the reaper weary,
Listening whispers, ‘Tis the fairy,
Lady of Shallot.”
– Alfred, Lord Tennyson
We brought together overflowing orchids and roses of rich red and pink along with rustic European decor to create an enchanting bohemian table setting, complete with pirates ships and velvet thrones. Bone marrow and sweet pastries, meat pie and a pork loin adorned with rosemary created a castle worthy feast. Our bride wore an ivory lace embellished dress and gold accessories, with a crown of delicate wire flowers in her loosely braided hair. Goblets of wine, antlers, rich tapestries and leather accents created a lush nature inspired ceremony scene overlooking the sparkling pond. Our Ophelia floated in a barge of flowers as she made her way to her handsome love, and together they kissed looking out over rolling hills and under a crimson sky.
Ranunculus, cymbidium orchids, frittolara, sweet peas, garden roses, pieris japonica, agonis foliage, silver dollar eucalyptus foliage, ferns, hypericum berries, blackberries, lilac, dahlias, privet berry, anemones and hellebores- Flowers! These are just some of the flowers used in our Ophelia’s bridal bouquet. I am OBSESSED with flowers. Flowers can help create almost any vibe you can dream of for your wedding so easily. Adding flowers always elevates and brings elegance and lavishness to any wedding scene. They can be simple or they can be overflowing but they are always a lovely thing.
As a huge fan of medieval fairytales and romantic whimsey, when I saw the incredible pond at Horsetail Ranch I thought, how gorgeous to put a bride on the pond. It boats a rustic yet modern cottage with a full kitchen and a spectacular bridal suite with amazing light for photos. The pier and pond makes for a perfect sunset ceremony, and guests enjoy spectacular views of vineyards and pastureland.
